Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey is likely to miss the remainder of the season after an infection set in on his surgically repaired ankle, according to Ed Bouchette of The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

The complications, as NFL Network's Rand Getlin first reported Thursday, now have Pouncey set to undergo a second procedure.

Placed on injured reserve/designated to return after suffering a fractured left fibula during the preseason, the four-time Pro Bowler was initially thought to be facing a 10-game absence.

Barring a seemingly unexpected return either late in the season or at some point in the playoffs, however, it appears as though his 2015 campaign will come to an end without having played a single regular-season game.

Cody Wallace, who held a starting role for the first five weeks of the year, will continue to see work with the first-team offensive line in Pouncey's absence.
