Report: Dolphins make Mike Pouncey highest-paid center in NFL with 5-year, $52.15M deal

The Miami Dolphins have signed Mike Pouncey to a five-year, $52.15-million contract extension that will make him the highest-paid center in the league, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The deal reportedly includes $22 million in guaranteed money and an $11-million signing bonus. His twin brother, Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey, was the highest-paid center prior to this deal.

Although Pouncey played the entire 2014 season at guard, the Dolphins are moving him back to his natural position of center for 2015. Along with newly-signed defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, he gives the Dolphins a young nucleus in the trenches on both offensive and defensive lines.

Pouncey, 25, has made two consecutive Pro Bowls despite missing four games last season and moving positions, and is the latest big-money signing for a Dolphins team looking to contend now.

A long-term extension for franchise quarterback Ryan Tannehill could be looming for the suddenly generous Dolphins as they attempt to solidify a strong core for years to come.
