Victor Cruz isn't worried about Giants upgrading at wide receiver

When he's healthy, Victor Cruz is one of the most dynamic wide receivers in the NFL.

However, Giants general manager Jerry Reese recently said he's unsure if Cruz can return to top form after season-ending surgery to repair a torn patellar tendon suffered in October.

Cruz said he understands Reese's prerogative and wasn't offended by his remarks.

"That's the way it is," Cruz told Dan Martin of the New York Post. "I understand what this game is. I understand what this sport is and until that player can be a player for you again, you have to figure out a way to get your team ready to go for Week 1."

Cruz is confident that his knee will heal and he'll return to elite form in 2015.

"My knee is feeling better every day," Cruz said. "I just want to get back out there and get back to 100 percent. I'm very confident I can get back to where I was."

Odell Beckham Jr. and Cruz are a formidable wide receiving duo, and if Cruz can continue to produce at an elite level, the NFC East will be on notice.

But Reese sounds like a man working on a contingency plan should Cruz stumble in his recovery.

"When a guy had a big injury like Victor had, you can't put all your eggs in his basket," Reese said at the scouting combine. "He looks good. Until you get out there - his game is quickness - until you get out there and move around, you really never know how he’s going to recover from that."
