Combine star Ali Marpet says he'd beat Jameis Winston in 40-yard dash

Division III prospect Ali Marpet made headlines last weekend when he ran the fastest 40-yard dash time out of any offensive lineman at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Marpet put himself on the radar of many NFL scouts with a 4.98 run, and he should be afforded every right to feel great about his draft stock.

The Hobart & William Smith center is certainly confident, boasting that he'd beat Florida State's Jameis Winston in a 40-yard dash.

Winston won the Heisman Trophy two seasons ago and is projected by many to be the first player selected in the 2015 NFL Draft.

"I think I'm going to edge him out," Marpet said to Jim Rome of CBS Sports Network's "ROME". "I think I'd beat him."

Marpet did run a faster time than Winston, with the quarterback clocking in at 4.97.

"I wanted to run a 4.90 and I had no idea what I ran at the combine," Marpet said. "They don't show us anything. I knew my first one felt a little bit slow and my second one felt a little bit faster."

The lone Division III prospect at the combine, Marpet may have put his school – with an undergraduate enrollment of 2,396 – on the map. By challenging Winston, he just may have continued to increase his own profile.
