Blount was seen at the Patriots' team facility Thursday morning, and is expected to sign later in the day, ESPN's Josina Anderson reports.

Analysis:

Blount's stint with the Steelers was highly unsuccessful, as off-the-field issues and dissatisfaction with being overshadowed by Le'Veon Bell eventually led up to his release earlier this week. He'll return to Bill Belichick and the Patriots' organization, the franchise at which he racked up 772 yards and a career-best seven touchdowns in 2013. It's unclear what his role in the offense will be with Shane Vereen and Jonas Gray also in the mix, but the New England backfield has always been highly unpredictable, so it wouldn't be overly surprising to see Blount carry the load in a given week down the road. He's had fond memories there, including a four-touchdown performance in the 2013 AFC Divisional round.
