Titans tight end Walker: Was unconscious after hit
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Titans tight end Delanie Walker says the hit that gave him a concussion left him unconscious for a couple minutes, and he agreed with Tennessee's decision to miss a game to help him heal.
Walker took part in the final practice before the Titans decided Sunday to hold him out Monday night against Pittsburgh, and the tight end called a smart move both by the team and himself. Walker said there's no pill or machine to heal brains faster and doctors can't replace brains.
''I want to be able to remember my kids and know who my family is when I'm done playing this sport,'' Walker said.
The nine-year veteran had to be carted off the field Nov. 9 when hit by Ravens safety Terrence Brooks. He will meet with an independent doctor Thursday and is expected to be cleared before visiting Philadelphia on Sunday.
Walker estimated this was his fourth concussion of his career and easily the worst. But his symptoms included a light headache for a few days that prompted doctors to worry the tight end recovered too quickly.
''I think that's why they determined they didn't want me to play in the Monday night game,'' Walker said.
Walker leads the Titans with 512 yards receiving and is tied for the team lead with four touchdown catches despite missing a game.
