Ravens respond to report alleging prior knowledge of Ray Rice video

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

The Baltimore Ravens have issued a statement, refuting a report that the team had prior knowledge of the Ray Rice assault video.

Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti, director of security Darren Sanders, general manager Ozzie Newsome, head coach John Harbaugh, and president Dick Cass all refute portions of ESPN.com's Outside The Lines report in which it demonstrated culpability on their behalves.

Bisciotti held a press conference Monday disputing that the Ravens saw the second video ahead of time.

The Ravens open their statement as follows:

"We at the Ravens have promised to be open, candid and transparent with our fans, sponsors, ticket holders, and the general public."

Notably, Sanders denies getting the assault video within hours of the incident, Harbaugh states that he only recommended to cut Rice after the second video emerged, and Bisciotti, Cass, and Newsome all deny asking Goodell for a lenient suspension for Rice.

Bisciotti ends the letter with the following:

As always, we endeavor to keep you, the public and the fans, fully informed, and we promise to continue to do so. We may all wish this incident to be put behind us, to concentrate on how we can learn from it and apply the lessons to a more aware and sensitive society, but as it continues to warrant attention, we will address it with the utmost candor and openness.  We hope to live up to the support you have given us.
