Every Monday and Friday, theScore's NFL editors will bring you a roundup of everything you need to know from around the division with the NFC West Notebook.

Arizona Cardinals

Cardinals improve to 2-0. Arizona had no problem defeating the struggling New York Giants, even with Carson Palmer on the sideline. The victory gave the Cardinals sole possession of first place in the NFC West.

Palmer hopes shoulder "wakes up." Palmer was held out practice all last week due to a nerve issue in his right shoulder, and has no idea how long the injury will keep him out. "It's just one of those things you've just go to wait and hope it wakes up," he said.

Gouging rates? As Glendale prepares for February's Super Bowl XLIX, a war of words is raging between the city's mayor, Jerry Weiers, and Cardinals president Michael Bidwill.

San Francisco 49ers

Bears spoil 49ers' home opener. San Francisco had its eight-game home winning streak snapped Sunday, falling 28-20 to the Chicago Bears. Penalties played a big role in the loss, as the 49ers committed 16 to concede 118 yards in the loss.

Kaepernick stock falling? ESPN's Paul Gutierrez seems to think so. The quarterback was penalized for "inappropriate language" in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game and turned the ball over four times.

Davis on crutches. Tight end Vernon Davis was reportedly spotted on crutches Sunday. The severity of his foot injury remains unknown, but the crutches are not a good sign.

Seattle Seahawks

Seahawks fall to Chargers. Seattle notched its first loss of the season Sunday, losing to the San Diego Chargers 30-21. The Seahawks defense was surprisingly average, while Russell Wilson completing 17-of-25 passes for 202 yards and two touchdowns.

Sherman comes to his own defense. The Seahawks cornerback came to his own defense following Sunday's loss, apparently taking issue with comments made by Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen and tight end Antonio Gates.

Oops. Percy Harvin scored a 51-yard rushing touchdown Sunday on a play that probably shouldn't have counted. The NFL admitted the error afterwards, saying Harvin should have been ruled out of bounds at the Chargers' 21-yard line.

St. Louis Rams

Late field goal lifts Rams over Buccaneers. Greg Zuerlein nailed a 38-yard field goal in the final minute of Sunday's game, giving the Rams a 19-17 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. St. Louis sits in a three-way tie with the Seahawks and 49ers for second place in the NFC West.

Davis makes first career start. Austin Davis shined in his first career start, completing 22-of-29 passes for 235 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. Despite the strong performance, head coach Jeff Fisher insisted Shaun Hill is still the starter.

Quinn gets extended. The Rams signed defensive end Robert Quinn to a four-year, $66.5-million contract extension Saturday that includes $41.2 in guaranteed money. The deal keeps Quinn under contract through 2019.
