Cardinals score 15 unanswered points in 4th quarter to drop Giants

Jennifer Stewart / USA TODAY Sports

Drew Stanton did just enough in place of injured quarterback Carson Palmer, Andre Ellington had his second-most productive game as a pro and the Arizona defense provided the rest of the offense in the Cardinals' 25-14 win over the New York Giants on Sunday.

Here's what you need to know...

  • The Cardinals wasted an early 10-point lead after 15 minutes, finding themselves in a 14-10 deficit heading into the fourth before scoring 14 unanswered points in the final quarter to secure the victory.
  • Arizona's defense and special teams did most of the heavy lifting Sunday, forcing four Giants turnovers (two interceptions, two fumbles) and returning a punt for a touchdown.
  • The noted punt came on a decisive play early in the fourth quarter with the Giants leading by one. Ted Ginn Jr. evaded several defenders with a highlight-reel 71-yard score to give the Cardinals a 19-14 lead.
  • Ellington recorded 91 yards on the ground, the second-highest total of his career (154 vs. Atlanta on Oct. 27, 2013).
  • Stanton was sacked four times and completed fewer than half his passes in his first start in more than three years. The 30-year-old limited his mistakes, however, and led the Cardinals on three long scoring drives in place of Palmer, who was held out due to a nerve issue in his shoulder.
  • Giants quarterback Eli Manning was picked off twice for the second straight game as the Giants fell to 0-2 to start the season. Manning finished 26-for-39 with 277 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
  • Larry Donnell was Manning's big target, catching seven passes for 81 yards.
  • The Giants lost linebacker Jon Beason to a toe injury in the third quarter. He did not return.
