NFC East Notebook: Cowboys defense steps up, Redskins lose RGIII

Every Monday and Friday, theScore's NFL editors will bring you a roundup of everything you need to know from around the division with the NFC East Notebook.

Dallas Cowboys

Cowboys dominant in road win. After a Week 1 loss that seemed to expose several weaknesses, they rebounded in a big way, controlling the game from start to finish in a 26-10 win over the Tennessee Titans.

Murray leads the way. With a 167-yard, one touchdown performance, running back DeMarco Murray continues to establish himself as a back ready to carry the load for the Cowboys' offense.

Defense steps up. Expected by many to be one of the worst units in the NFL, the Cowboys' defense made a statement in Sunday's game, forcing two turnovers and holding the Titans to just 314 yards and 10 points.

Jerry Jones supports Commissioner. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones became the latest NFL owner to come to the defense of Commissioner Roger Goodell after criticism stemming from his handling of the Ray Rice investigation.

Washington Redskins

Redskins rout Jaguars. Coming off a frustrating Week 1 loss, the Redskins put together a complete effort on both sides of the ball to notch a convincing 41-10 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

RGIII out indefinitely. Quarterback Robert Griffin III was carted off in the first quarter of Sunday's game with what the team later confirmed was a dislocated left ankle. Griffin will undergo further tests Monday that should determine the severity of the injury and how much time he'll miss.

Cousins thrives in relief. While the Griffin injury is a significant loss for the Redskins, the offense could still be in good shape with Kirk Cousins under center. Cousins was very productive after taking over early in the game, leading the Redskins to a blowout win.

Jackson injures shoulder. Wide receiver DeSean Jackson left Sunday's game with a shoulder injury and did not return. He suffered a sprain to the AC joint in his shoulder and hopes to be available for next week's game.

New York Giants

Giants can't take advantages of Palmer-less Cardinals. In a game that instantly became more winnable when it was announced that Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer would not play, the Giants couldn't capitalize and took a disappointing 25-14 loss at home.

Beason dealing with toe injury. Linebacker Jon Beason left with a toe injury in the third quarter of Sunday's game, and the Giants are concerned he may have re-aggravated the injury that saw him miss time in offseason workouts.

Randle makes highlight TD. Wide receiver Reuben Randle got the Giants on the board just before halftime with this impressive one-handed touchdown grab over Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson.

"We're a better team than last year." Giants quarterback Eli Manning insists that, despite the team's continued struggles in all phases of the game, they are a better team this time around and will find a way to win some of these close games.

Philadephia Eagles

Offensive line a significant concern. With Lane Johnson serving a suspension, and both Allen Barbre and Evan Mathis set to miss significant time after Week 1 injuries, an offensive front that had become one of the NFL's best is starting to become a concern for the Eagles.

Officials keeping up with high-tempo offense. After NFL officials had to limit the pace the Eagles' offense was playing with at times last season, it appears they're keeping up so far in 2014, and the Eagles like what they see.

Chip Kelly hires replay challenge consultant. To help with decisions on challenging plays this season, Eagles coach Chip Kelly has hired Frank Kosman, a former ACC replay official.
