Report: NFL insists Rice video 'starkly different' from Rice's verbal account

Thomas Campbell-US PRESSWIRE

The NFL is sticking to its guns in insisting it did not see video of Ray Rice assaulting his then-fiancée before it hit the Internet on Monday, and insisting it increased Rice's suspension upon viewing the video because the events portrayed in the tape differed from what Rice said happened.

In the video, Rice is clearly seen punching Janay Palmer in the face and knocking her unconscious.

The NFL told Rice his suspension was increased from two games to an indefinite length because his verbal account of what happened in the elevator was "starkly different" from what the video shows, per ESPN New York's Jane McManus.

The Baltimore Ravens, on the other hand, have indicated the former running back was truthful about what happened when questioned prior to the video's release.

McManus adds that the NFLPA is still mulling whether to file an appeal on behalf of Rice.
