Eagles place Evan Mathis on IR with designation to return

The Philadelphia Eagles offense just suffered a crushing blow.

Pro Bowl guard Evan Mathis has been placed on the injured reserve with designation to return. He will not be eligible to play for another eight weeks, though he'll be eligible to practice with the team in six.

Mathis suffered an MCL sprain, per the Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McLane

The 32-year-old is considered one of the best run blockers in the game, and Pro Football Focus has rated Mathis as their top guard in each of the past three seasons.

Matt Tobin is slated to step in at left guard.
