Kyle Orton signs 2-year deal with Bills; will reportedly earn up to $5 million in 2014
In his final season with the Dallas Cowboys, quarterback Kyle Orton earned a base salary of $1.35 million. He will reportedly have an opportunity to earn significantly more than that this season as a member of the Buffalo Bills.
Orton, who was released by the Cowboys in July, signed a two-year deal with the Bills on Saturday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed by the team, but NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Orton could earn up to $5 million in 2014.
The deal reportedly includes a team option for 2015.
As Rapoport's colleague Gregg Rosenthal points out, that amount is on par with what the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are paying quarterback Josh McCown, which suggests that Orton will play at some point this season.
A fourth-round draft pick of the Chicago Bears in 2005, Orton has completed 1,326-of-2,265 passes for 15,019 yards with 83 touchdowns and 59 interceptions in 75 career games.
