Cowboys' Claiborne to miss 'a few days' with shoulder injury

Morris Claiborne may have survived being in the middle of a brawl with the Oakland Raiders earlier in the week, but the Dallas Cowboys corner couldn't escape the injury bug Wednesday.

This is Claiborne's second ailment of the preseason as he had a minor knee issue in late July.

The Cowboys defense has already been devastated by free agent losses, injuries, and suspensions, so another loss is the last thing they need right now.

Cowboys' Claiborne still dealing with shoulder pain

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Morris Claiborne will be ready to go Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers, but he won't be 100 percent.

Claiborne sat out the Cowboys' final preseason game Thursday as he continues to deal with a shoulder injury.

“The biggest thing is going to be the pain,” Claiborne said via The Dallas Morning News. “Can you tolerate the pain? The pain is there and it’s going nowhere. That’s going to be the big thing.”

The former sixth-overall pick in 2012 said he will take a shot before facing the 49ers to help with the pain.

“It’s feeling better each and every day, so I don’t really know what down the line will bring, but I know this first game I’ll have a shot before that one."

Claiborne started just seven games last year because of injuries and the Cowboys can't have that this time around. Their defense is banged up, and defensive backs Orlando Scandrick and Jakar Hamilton will miss the first four games with suspensions.
