49ers' Kendall Hunter diagnosed with torn ACL

Jeremy Brevard / USA TODAY Sports

The San Francisco 49ers were reportedly bracing for bad news after running back Kendall Hunter left training camp Friday with an apparent right knee injury, and it now appears they'll be without him for the entire season:

Hunter served as the primary backup to Frank Gore each of the past three seasons, rushing for 1,202 yards and seven touchdowns on 262 carries. He is entering the final year of his rookie contract.

With Hunter likely done for the season, it will be between second-round pick Carlos Hyde, Marcus Lattimore, and LaMichael James for the No. 2 running back job.
