Bills' EJ Manuel on Sammy Watkins: 'The kid is special'

The trust between Bills quarterback EJ Manuel and rookie wideout Sammy Watkins finally seems to be solidifying. With team training camp getting underway, Manuel has been duly impressed by Watkins' explosive playmaking abilities.

"I don't know if you saw him out there, on a slant, stop on a dime," Manuel said. "And he just turned the other way, on [Stephon] Gilmore, who I think could be an all-pro corner, and he made the play. The kid is special. I have thought that way since 2010."

The two appear to be developing a healthy on-field chemistry, and Manuel was apparently 4-for-4 on passes to Watkins in drills on the first day of camp.

"It felt good," Manuel told reporters afterwards.  "You really just want to get it in a spot for him to catch it and get some yards after the catch.  That’s the biggest thing about a receiver like Sammy."

Says Manuel of the night the Bills drafted Watkins: "My phone almost went dead, because 18,000 people called me at one time.

"It's going to be great to watch him grow."
