Jets RB Goodson to be arraigned Wednesday on weapons charges

New York Jets running back Mike Goodson, who was indicted on weapons charges in November, has an arraignment scheduled for Wednesday morning, A.J. Perez of NJ.com reports.

The hearing will take place at Morris County Courthouse at 8:30 a.m.

"He's going to be in court and will plead not guilty," Goodson's attorney, Anthony Fusco, said.

Goodson and acquaintance Garant Evans were arrested in the early hours of May 17, 2013 after police responded to a report of an SUV stopped in the middle of Interstate 80 West. Both were found to be intoxicated.

Police recovered a loaded .45 caliber handgun and ammunition, including at least one hollow-point bullet, from the glove box of the vehicle but were unable to determine who owned the gun.

Evans, the driver, allegedly told police on the scene that the gun belonged to him, but later retracted his statement. His attorney, Thomas Ashley, said the vehicle did not belong to his client.

"The car was a rental it was rented by someone apparently associated with Goodson," Ashley said. "It was not rented by my client."

Ashley said Evans will also enter a plea of not guilty. If convicted, Evans and Goodson each face a minimum of three years in prison.

Goodson, who signed a three-year deal with the Jets in March, was placed on injured reserve after suffering a torn ACL in his second game of the season.
