Report: Packers planning to release Christine Michael

The Green Bay Packers are planning to release running back Christine Michael, reports ESPN's Adam Schefter and Field Yates, citing league sources.

Michael is a notable name - particularly for fantasy owners intrigued by his supposed "awakening" as a player - but it was only a matter of time before significant changes were made in the Green Bay offensive backfield.

Upgrading the running back position was a clear point of emphasis for the Packers in the 2017 draft, as they added Jamaal Williams in the fourth round, Aaron Jones in the fifth round, and Devante Mays in the seventh round.

All three will presumably enter training camp competing for complementary roles alongside receiver-turned-running back Ty Montgomery.

Michael suited up for six games after joining the Packers as a mid-season waiver claim in 2016, taking 31 carries for 114 yards and one touchdown.
