Jaguars' Smith to players who charge money for youth camps: 'Y'all suckers'

Telvin Smith can't believe some of his fellow NFLers are charging kids to attend their football camps and he's not going to keep quiet about it.

The Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker posted a fiery message via his Instagram account on Thursday with a direct message to any players charging money for their football camps: "Y'all suckers."

Smith's Instagram is private but an account covering his alma mater Florida State reposted the video.

Smith clarified to ESPN that he wasn't calling out anyone in particular, but continued to drive the point that he's been disgusted with players who charge money for kids to attend camps.

"I keep saying robbing these kids because I feel that's what we're doing," Smith told ESPN's Michael DiRocco. "We're in the NFL. We're in a multi-billion corporation. You can write that off on your taxes, but you're charging these kids? There's no part of it that's right.

"Your heart's not in the right direction when you're doing that."

Smith also clarified he wasn't referring to lengthy camps designed to legitimately improve skills, but rather shorter events that are essentially a chance for kids to meet their favorite players.

Players are allowed to apply for $1,000-to-$4,000 grants to help fund these camps as well as contacting local sponsors to help cover costs, giving players little reason - other than greed - to charge a fee.

"Guys can reach out to the community and they'll donate food, they'll donate money, they'll donate water," Smith said. "That's how I know it can be done.

"I had to buy extra shirts (for his own camp). But I'm willing to do that because we're buying these designer clothes and cars and jewelry and then you can't give $600 or $2,000 extra out of your pocket to make sure a couple extra kids come to your camp? I'm going to make sure I've got that."
