Report: Browns could try to trade for Cousins

Kirk Cousins might not be demanding a trade, but that apparently hasn't stopped teams from trying to land him.

The Cleveland Browns may make a run at acquiring the Washington Redskins quarterback, a league source told Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

However, Cousins might have concerns about joining the Browns. He signed his franchise-tag tender last week and one of his main concerns was that he could be traded anywhere once he signed it, with the veteran pivot specifically worried about being acquired by Cleveland, a separate source told Florio.

The San Francisco 49ers have long been rumored to be the only team Cousins would accept a trade to, due to the presence of head coach Kyle Shanahan, the quarterback's former offensive coordinator in Washington.

The Browns have a dire need at quarterback and have the draft capital to make a trade enticing for Washington, including the 12th overall pick and two second-round selections in this year's draft.

Cleveland has been consistently linked to Patriots backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, but with New England believed to be unwilling to trade him barring a huge offer, the Browns might be turning their sights to Cousins, who could be the cheaper option in terms of trade price.

Under the franchise tag, Cousins will earn $23.94 million in 2017, but that likely wouldn't be an issue for the Browns, who have $61 million in cap space.
