The Green Bay Packers paid up in a big way to get Nick Perry back under contract.

Keeping him off the free-agent market with a last-minute deal, Green Bay rewarded the breakout pass-rusher with a five-year, $60-million contract, Tom Pelissero of USA Today reports.

Perry's new deal reportedly comes with an $18-million signing bonus and a staggering total of $20.8 million in the first year.

Franchise tags being given to Chandler Jones, Jason Pierre-Paul, and Melvin Ingram had Perry entering free agency as the top available edge rusher.

The Packers will hope that the career-high 11 sacks he posted across 14 games in 2016 is a sign of things to come for the former first-round pick.
