Report: Eagles willing to trade Mychal Kendricks

What's an NFL offseason without the Eagles getting involved in the trade market?

Philadelphia is willing to move linebacker Mychal Kendricks as the new league year approaches, and other teams around the league are expected to have interest, a source told Jimmy Kempski of PhillyVoice.com.

Barring a massive asking price, which seems unlikely given the lack of playing time Kendricks received this past season, Kempski's report would appear to suggest that a deal can even be considered likely.

Making Kendricks available is a sensible move for the Eagles, as the 2012 second-round pick took a back seat to Nigel Bradham and Jordan Hicks in the linebacker rotation in the first season under defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.

Given the relatively steady production he'd enjoyed beforehand - which earned him a four-year, $29-million extension in 2015 - the 26-year-old would have a chance to contribute elsewhere after getting a fresh start.

Kendricks started 33 of 35 games over his first four seasons after joining the Eagles, racking up 350 tackles, 12 sacks, three interceptions, and 19 passes defensed.

Never shy about swinging a deal, Philadelphia's willingness to make a trade became all the more apparent while moving on from the Chip Kelly era last offseason.

Among the many trades completed between last spring and the start of the 2016 season, the Eagles sent Kiko Alonso and Byron Maxwell to the Dolphins, DeMarco Murray to the Titans, Mark Sanchez to the Broncos, Sam Bradford to the Vikings, and Eric Rowe to the Patriots.

The most notable deal was, of course, a blockbuster that brought in the No. 2 overall pick and put Philadelphia in position to select Carson Wentz.

Any draft-pick compensation acquired as part of a Kendricks trade, even a conditional late-rounder, could help the Eagles to surround their potential franchise quarterback with young talent.
