Jaguars owner backs Bortles: 'He's our quarterback'

With Blake Bortles facing a make-or-break season in 2017, the young quarterback has been given a vote of confidence by Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan.

Khan confirmed the Jaguars won't look to add any competition for Bortles this offseason.

"The phrase that has been used is 'regression,'" Khan told Sky Sports News HQ. "He's our quarterback and we remain committed to him. What tools do we give him where he can be at his best?

"We've got change with our coordinator, and a new quarterback coach, and some outside help which he needs to use because under the (collective bargaining agreement) we are limited with how much time we can spend with him."

Instead of building upon an impressive 2015 campaign, the 24-year-old's poor performances held back a talented Jaguars team. Only four out of 30 qualifying quarterbacks had a lower passer rating than Bortles' 78.8.

This has led to speculation that Jacksonville could look at other options under center in the draft or free agency. However, Khan expressed the belief that Bortles can turn his career around.

"Blake has to have the initiative and the drive, which I believe he does, to get better," said Khan. "We think he has the talent, he has the drive, he has to put it together."
