Rams exec hints Fisher's job is safe: 'Unfair' to judge him on record

Head coach Jeff Fisher has the 4-7 Los Angeles Rams on course to miss the playoffs for the fifth straight season, but apparently he shouldn't just be judged on just his record.

Rams chief operating officer Kevin Demoff defended Fisher, pointing to the unique circumstances he had to guide the team through - with the offseason move to Los Angeles - and hinted his job remains safe despite losing six of his last seven games.

"Everybody will want to judge Jeff through the prism of just the record, but that's totally unfair when you look at the set of circumstances he was handed this year," Demoff said, according to Steve Wyche of NFL.com. "It was different than any team in the NFL.

"We moved halfway across the country, then had (organized team activities) in Oxnard. Training camp was in Irvine, now we're in Thousand Oaks. We moved coaches and players and families. To provide leadership and consistency, he's done a model job."

The 58-year-old Fisher was reportedly set to sign a three-year contract extension earlier in the season, but the deal has yet to be confirmed.

Based on Demoff's praise, it appears unlikely the Rams will move on from Fisher, even if the club finishes with a losing record for the 10th straight season.

"He's a terrific leader of men," Demoff said about Fisher. "Players, coaches and staff - he has their complete respect in the way he runs the franchise. It's easy to talk about the record, but you have to take a snapshot of everything this year and give him the credit that he's due."
