San Francisco 49ers head coach Chip Kelly supports Colin Kaepernick's anthem protest against racial inequality and police brutality, a gesture that means the world to the quarterback.

During Thursday's press conference, Lowell Cohn of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat tried goading Kelly into ripping Kaepernick, but the head coach was having none of it, stating the 28-year-old should answer questions honestly and speak truthfully about any matter.

Kaepernick expressed gratitude for Kelly on Sunday.

"I think he's a strong man," Kaepernick said via Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News. “I don't know if he realizes how much that means to me and if he realizes how much that means to these people, to these communities. The fact that he was willing to take a strong stand and say these things aren't right, and that's huge coming from a head coach."

Kaepernick said last week that he'll donate $100,000 a month toward fighting inequalities, and will set up a website to track the spending.
