Dolphins' Jay Ajayi: Granted clean slate for Week 2

Head coach Adam Gase said Ajayi will be granted a clean slate heading into Week 2 against the Patriots, ESPN.com reports. "We're back to basically [where] he's back in meetings, he's back in the building," Gase said. "We left him back. That was my decision and we've cleaned that up. We'll move past that and basically this is a new day for him today."

Analysis:

Ajayi was left behind in Miami as his teammates traveled to Seattle in Week 1, with unconfirmed rumors suggesting he was partially being punished for his poor response to losing out on the starting job. Granted, his lack of contribution on special teams likely also played a role, as Damien Williams was able to assist in that department. Arian Foster accounted for 16 of the team's 19 running-back touches, with Williams handling the other three. While it's possible Ajayi could slot back in as Foster's top backup, there's not enough evidence to assume it will actually happen. Head coach Adam Gase did say he expected Ajayi to have a significant role this season, but that doesn't necessarily mean the second-year running back presents a real threat to Foster's workload. Despite Gase's comments, it's still unclear if Ajayi will be active for Sunday's game against the Patriots.
