The Bay sits united.

Kevin Durant, the Golden State Warriors' newest addition, extended his support to San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick on Friday, while speaking at an event in Austin.

"I’m behind anyone who stands up for what they believe in," Durant said, as relayed by Anthony Slater of the Bay Area News Group.

"Colin Kaepernick is standing up for what he believes in. That’s what makes our country so great, right? You have the luxury to do so. He was unapologetic about it and, in his defense, I don’t think he was trying to disrespect anyone. I think he was trying to get his point across. I’m all for anyone who wants to do that."

Kaepernick has captured the national spotlight for his continued protest of police brutality and the oppression of African-Americans and people of color in the United States. He's received criticism for his form of protest - sitting during the national anthem.

Durant, however, sees nothing wrong with a public figure using his platform to affect change.

"As athletes, we have this huge platform," Durant said. "A lot if people are watching at all times. Sometimes it may not be what you do, they like. But if you feel like it’s gonna be impactful, that's on you. I feel like everyone should stand up for what they believe."
