Cowboys' Tony Romo: Won't be placed on IR
Romo (back) will stay on the active roster to start the season, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
Analysis:
There was some thought Romo might be placed on injured reserve, as the new rules allow each team to bring one player back from IR anytime after the first six weeks of its season. While his 8-10 week timetable suggests Romo is unlikely to return before that point, the Cowboys apparently haven't given up hope he could be back before Week 8. The team has a Week 7 bye, making Week 8 (against the Eagles) a more realistic target for Romo's return. While not slated for surgery, Romo reportedly won't be cleared to play until his fracture heals completely.
