Tom Brady's mishap with scissors before Thursday's preseason game against the Chicago Bears was one of the stranger preseason incidents in recent memory.

The New England Patriots opted to sit the veteran quarterback, and Brady called the setback a "silly accident" during a press conference Tuesday.

"I let out a pretty loud word I wouldn't say in front of my kids," Brady said about his reaction to the cut.

The 39-year-old insisted he'd have played if it was the regular season or a playoff game.

"I wish I could have played," he said.

A beat writer in attendance managed to get a close-up shot of Brady's thumb, which he injured while attempting to pry an object from his cleats:

Brady missed Sunday's and Monday's practices due to personal reasons, but refused to elaborate on why.

"I just had to take care of something," he said. "It's good to be back."
