Roseman: Eagles erred in spending big on external free agents

The secret is out.

The Chip Kelly era with the Philadelphia Eagles was a mistake.

Eagles vice president of football operations Howie Roseman has been making that clear with his recent roster movements and contract signings, in an attempt to un-do some of his team's moves from recent years.

"When you look at it, some of the mistakes we’ve made have been going out and spending a lot of money," Roseman told 94 WIP radio on Monday, according to EaglesWire. "A lot of those mistakes were on guys that aren’t our own. They were guys that we’ve brought from another organization, and we thought we knew."

The Eagles, who had given Kelly full roster control prior to his firing, didn't wait long to ship out players he brought in like Byron Maxwell, Kiko Alonso, and DeMarco Murray, once they dismissed their head coach.

Roseman dished out contract extensions to former Eagles draft picks Fletcher Cox, Lane Johnson, and Zach Ertz this offseason since regaining personnel control. The 41-year-old executive has been a member of the Eagles' front office staff since 2000, and would like to see his team return to a similar culture it had under former coach Andy Reid.
