Brees raves about new teammate Fleener's ability to get open

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees may have a new favorite target entering the 2016 season.

The Saints acquired Coby Fleener in free agency, signing the tight end to a five-year, $36-million contract in March.

Brees said he was thoroughly impressed by Fleener when watching film on NFC South opponents, a sentiment that undoubtedly factored into the Saints' decision to acquire him.

"It felt like every time we turned on the film to watch an opponent that we were about to play, I'm watching Colts film or Fleener film," Brees told reporters Wednesday. "It was like, 'Man, this guy has an uncanny ability to separate.' He is always open. There's always a place to throw the ball where he can get it. It gets you excited about a guy who has that type of range and that type of feel."

Fleener may prove to be an unstoppable force in the red zone with Brees at quarterback.

"I don't care who is on him. He's 6-5 or 6-6, there is a place where I can throw the ball where he can get it or nobody can," Brees said.

Two years removed from an eight touchdown season, Fleener may be in line for the best campaign of his professional career.
