Eagles agree to 6-year extension with Fletcher Cox, worth reported $103M
The Philadelphia Eagles agreed to a six-year extension with defensive tackle Fletcher Cox, the team announced Monday.
Financial terms were not released, but Cox signed a deal worth $103 million with $63 million guaranteed, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. It is the most guaranteed money for someone other than a quarterback in league history.
Cox will receive $36.29 million in guaranteed money upon signing the contract, while the $63 million is guaranteed for injury, and makes it highly impractical for the Eagles to release him any time during the term of the deal. Over the course of the contract, Cox's base salary will eventually escalate to $16.1 million by 2022, per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.
The new deal also includes a $26-million signing bonus, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Cox recorded 71 tackles, 9.5 sacks, and three forced fumbles last season, playing in all 16 games with the Eagles. The 25-year-old was named a second-team All-Pro in consecutive seasons, and was named to the Pro Bowl for the first time.
"I'm just glad he's back and it's good seeing him. He means a lot to this defense and what we're trying to do," Eagles defensive tackle Bennie Logan said of Cox via the team's official website. "We're going to have some fun up front this year."

Sporting the versatility to play either tackle or end, Cox is the premier player among the Eagles' defensive line, and figures to be the key pillar of the defense in head coach Doug Pederson's new regime.
Prior to the extension, Cox was slated to earn $7.8 million in base salary for the upcoming season.
