Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert is set to undergo ankle surgery that is expected to require a three-month recovery period, according to Jeff Owczarski of Cincinnati.com.

The injury occurred in the Pro Bowl in January, but all signs indicated Eifert would simply need rest to heal, despite leaving the stadium in a walking boot.

A three-month time frame would put Eifert back at the end of August, meaning he would miss training camp but be ready to take the field in Week 1.

Eifert is coming off a career year, catching 52 passes for 615 yards and 13 touchdowns, and the Bengals picked up his fifth-year option in April.
