Vikings' Boehringer to be 1st NFL player with umlaut on jersey

Moritz Boehringer entered the NFL's history books when the Minnesota Vikings made him the first foreign player to be drafted without college experience.

Boehringer, a native of Stuttgart, Germany, previously played wide receiver for the Schwabisch Hall Unicorns of the German Football League before being selected in the sixth round of the 2016 draft.

On Wednesday, he made NFL history again, becoming the first player to have an umlaut included in his name on the back of his jersey.

Boehringer has been forced to misspell his own name due to the restrictions of most North American keyboards, even on his own Twitter page.

The NFL, which rarely changes for anyone, will allow the German receiver to display his name in his native language featuring an umlaut over the "O," instead of the extra "E."
