Report: Eagles likely to hire Bears' Joe Douglas for VP position

The Philadelphia Eagles' search for a vice president of player personnel is reportedly back on.

The Eagles requested and were granted permission by the Chicago Bears to interview their college scouting director, Joe Douglas, for the role, sources told Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune.

Douglas' interview is believed to be a formality, and he'll likely be offered the position barring any unforeseen changes, sources told Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Before free agency, the Eagles were in the market for a new executive to run their scouting department, following the firings of Chip Kelly and executive Ed Marynowitz. However, with other teams unwilling to part with anyone before the end of the draft, the Eagles postponed their search.

The Bears could have blocked the request by the Eagles, as it was not a position with the general manager title.

Executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman is the Eagles' general manager in everything but name, as he engineered and oversaw the blockbuster trade for the No. 2 overall pick and, along with senior director of player personnel Tom Donahoe and head coach Doug Pederson, directed the team's actions in free agency and the draft.
