Antrel Rolle wants to return to Giants: 'New York is where my heart is'

After drafting a pair of defensive backs in the 2016 NFL draft, the Chicago Bears released 11-year safety Antrel Rolle, but the three-time Pro Bowler isn't ready to hang 'em up yet.

Rolle split the first 10 years of his career between the Arizona Cardinals and New York Giants, and he'd like to return to the latter for his final NFL seasons.

"New York is where my heart is, man," Rolle told Sirius XM NFL Radio. "I think everyone knows that. I’ve never hidden it. New York is where the heart is. New York is where I feel comfortable. New York is a place where I would love to play. You know, there’s a difference playing for an organization, you know, you’re there to play and to win, and you’re there because that’s where your contract is. And there’s a difference in playing where your heart is.

"I would absolutely be open to the situation if it presents itself. Obviously it would have to make sense for both (sides). The New York Giants, I think it would definitely make sense for both myself and the team. But let’s see what happens."

Rolle missed nine games in the 2015 season with a knee injury. He insists he's healthy now, and told the radio show that there's a "200 percent chance" he will continue to play football.

The Giants seemed pleased to move on from Rolle in 2015, but struggled at the safety position in his absence. New York made some major upgrades to their defense in free agency, but couldn't find a playmaker to replace Rolle.

If the Giants did bring Rolle back, the 33-year-old would most likely be used to mentor 2015 draft picks Landon Collins and Mykkele Thompson, as well as 2016 third-round safety Darian Thompson.

The Giants could easily afford to add Rolle to the roster financially, as they still have over $20 million in cap space available.
