Bong hit to pool dive: Reliving the craziest NFL Draft of all time

ESPNNFL / Twitter

Look back at all seven rounds with our NFL Draft Tracker, which includes scouting profiles.

It started with a video of Laremy Tunsil hitting a bong through a gas mask, and ended with the wrong jersey being presented to "Mr. Irrelevant."

The three days of the 2016 NFL Draft will likely be remembered as one of the wildest in recent memory.

Here's the craziest moments from a highly entertaining edition of the annual event.

The Laremy Tunsil saga

Tunsil's misfortune will go down in draft history and will likely give way to one hell of a sports documentary. A social media hack that leaked the now infamous gas mask bong video, a slide down the draft boards, an admission of accepting money at Ole Miss, and finally, an allergic reaction forcing a delay to his introductory press conference. The drama surrounding the Miami Dolphins new tackle seems too far-fetched for a sequel to the movie "Draft Day", yet it actually all happened. At the end of it all, the Dolphins got a highly-talented tackle much later than they should have, and Ole Miss looks horrible in the college football world.

Mike Mayock is a draft boss, gets German receiver drafted by Vikings

Let's follow the timeline that led to German receiver Moritz Boehringer getting selected by the Minnesota Vikings.

  • The 6-foot-4 wideout joins the NFL Network crew on set, where Rich Eisen asks him how he got into football.
  • Boehringer divulges he learned of the sport just five years prior, while watching Adrian Peterson YouTube videos.
  • Mike Mayock asks the German who his favorite team is, he responds with the Vikings.
  • Mayock then jokes that he's good friends with Minnesota coach Mike Zimmer and general manager Rick Spielman.
  • The draft expert then turns to the camera and demands his friends draft the raw 22-year-old, reminding them they love "length" and "speed."
  • Minutes later the Vikings draft Boehringer, Eisen coins the nickname "dreamweaver" for Mayock.

Much like the Tunsil story, Boehringer's tale is almost not to be believed, but it actually happened. In the process, he became the first player to go from a European league to the NFL.

Roger Goodell turns full heel, channels Vince McMahon

Booing the embattled Commissioner has become a yearly tradition, but Goodell usually just accepts his fate and carries on with the show. This wasn't the case to open Saturday's fourth round. Opting for a casual look, different from his usual suit, Goodell turned full wrestling heel and urged the crowd to "Bring it On" as the boos reigned down upon him.

Kevin Faulk rocks a Tom Brady jersey while announcing the Patriots pick

It's only appropriate to follow the booing of Goodell with a Tom Brady nugget isn't it? Kevin Faulk made his thoughts on the legendary quarterback's upcoming four game suspension known during his announcement of the Patriots' 78th overall selection Friday, wearing a Brady jersey for the pick. He also hit the microphone with a scalding hot, "The New England Patriots and Tom Brady select" intro to his pick.

Scooby Wright celebrates selection with pool dive

Scooby Wright III was one of college football's most dominant linebackers, but was still around as the final picks in the draft came off the board. The Cleveland Browns finally called the Arizona standout's name with the 250th overall selection, and he immediately celebrated by jumping into his parents' pool with his clothes on. To be fair he just realized a life-long dream came true, so a pool dive seems as appropriate as anything for the occasion.

Keanu Neal hugs Roger Goodell long enough to be married in some states

The "bro hug" from the Commissioner has become a ritual for any first round draftee, but Keanu Neal took it to a whole different level Thursday. After the Atlanta Falcons selected the Florida safety with the 17th pick, Neal embraced Goodell for a full 15 seconds before posing for pictures. All that was needed was a little All 4 One softly playing in the background to complete the moment.

NFL Network erupts after Bush pick follows Beavers selection

You can take the boys out of the playground, but you can't take the playground out of the boys. The Vikings selected Willie Beavers in the fourth round, prompting Mike Mayock to proudly exclaim, "I'm very much a Beavers guy!" This was followed by the Chicago Bears drafting Deon Bush, which set the panel into a giggling fit as they went to break.
