Eagles haven't contacted Wentz since trading up

When the Philadelphia Eagles sent a wealth of draft picks to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for the second overall pick, the assumption was they would be picking North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz.

A week has passed since they made their move, but Wentz told Matt Lombardo of NJ.com that the Eagles "have not" contacted their widely assumed future quarterback.

The Eagles can't necessarily assume Wentz is their pick considering the Los Angeles Rams sit one spot ahead of them with a need at quarterback. Philadelphia reportedly coveted Wentz before making the trade and pulling the trigger to give up all those picks likely wouldn't have happened without some confirmation he would be available.

Wentz also said that he appreciates the amount of former quarterbacks on the Eagles coaching staff, including head coach Doug Peterson.

"They've been through it. They know what it takes to be a quarterback in this league and understand the game from your position," said Wentz. "That will obviously help the development of whatever quarterback goes there."

The North Dakota State product didn't bite when asked about current starting quarterback Sam Bradford, but did say he would be willing to sit and learn when he arrives to his new team and do whatever he can to help win.

"As a competitor, you want to get on the field as soon as you can," said Wentz, when asked about possibly sitting out his rookie season. "But you want to do best for your team, your career and everything. That's not up me to decide. I'm just going there to compete, do the best I can, earn the respect of my teammates and everything. The coaches will decide when I'm ready."

Just like the Rams, it appears the Eagles won't be letting their pick leak until they call the man himself.
