Chiefs sign rushers West, Ware to reported 2-year, $3.6M extensions
The Kansas City Chiefs have signed running backs Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West to contract extensions, the team announced Thursday.
Terms of the deals weren't released. However, both West and Ware signed two-year extensions worth $3.6 million with $2.35 million guaranteed, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
"Charcandrick and Spencer both stepped in and were very effective for us offensively last year," Chiefs general manager John Dorsey said, according to the team's official website. "These guys have different styles and abilities, and together they provide us quality depth at the running back position."
West rushed for 634 yards and four touchdowns on 160 carries last season, suiting up in 15 games while making nine starts. The 24-year-old took a more prominent role in the offense after Jamaal Charles suffered a season-ending ACL injury Oct. 11 against the Chicago Bears.
Ware rushed for 403 yards and six touchdowns on 72 carries last season in 11 games, making two starts.
As a result of the extensions, the Chiefs are seeking to trade running back Knile Davis, a source told Terez A. Paylor of the Kansas City Star.
