Report: Manchester City on the verge of clinching £20M deal for Ter Stegen

Manchester City is close to agreeing to a £20-million deal with Barcelona for goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who is growing frustrated with his backup role at Camp Nou, according to The Telegraph's Matt Law.

The opportunity to play under manager Pep Guardiola next season has convinced Ter Stegen to choose City over Liverpool, which is seeking an alternative to Simon Mignolet.

Law also notes that Ter Stegen wouldn't be assured of starter's role at the Etihad, with Joe Hart ready to compete for the No. 1 spot and Willy Caballero set to leave in the summer.

The 23-year-old told German outlet TZ last week that he wants to "take the next step and play more."

He added: "If nothing changes, we have to talk."

Ter Stegen has failed to crack Barcelona's La Liga lineup, instead settling for Champions League and Copa del Rey duties. It's not as if he's not playing - he has managed 14 starts in those two cup competitions this season - but Claudio Bravo is clearly the favourite of Barcelona manager Luis Enrique.
