Coach K lectures reporter on Duke's history in NCAA tournament

Mike Krzyzewski wasn't thrilled with a particular reporter's line of questioning ahead of Thursday's Sweet 16 showdown between No. 4 Duke and No. 1 Oregon.

A reporter quizzed Krzyzewski on the team's 0-4 record in the Pacific time zone this season (Thursday's game will be played in California), and the Blue Devils bench boss took exception.

"It's interesting with ESPN, every time I look at that ticker, it's something we haven't done," Krzyzewski said, as relayed by the San Jose Mercury News. "So we've won 90 games in the NCAA. I've never been one to look at what we've done on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or whatever."

Coach K then veered into a lectured on the illustrious history of Duke basketball.

"So this is our 23rd Sweet 16. We've been in 116 NCAA games and we're honored like heck to be here," Krzyzewski continued. "I really don't think it makes a damn bit of difference what we've done on the West Coast before. If we started to compete because of Mondays, Tuesdays and the West Coast, I don't think we ever would have had five national championships and 12 Final Fours."

Eventually he would circle back to the original question regarding Duke's lack of success on the West Coast this season.

"It's probably a longer answer than you might want, but that's the way I look at those things," Krzyzewski said. "I don't think they mean a damn thing. Who we play now means a lot. And who we play at that time means a lot."
