Somehow, Fernando Alonso is okay.

The Spaniard was able to walk away unharmed after a stunning crash at the Australian Grand Prix on Sunday. After making contact with Esteban Gutierrez's car at Turn 3, Alonso's car slammed into the wall before going airborne and flipping twice, eventually coming to a stop.

Alonso was able to crawl out of his cockpit and limp away, signalling to the stunned crowd that he was fine.

"I was flying," Alonso said, "so you see the sky then the ground, then the sky, then the ground.

''You want to stop but it doesn't stop. It keeps going and going and going. It was quite scary, but at the last moment the car stopped and I had a little space to go out and I said 'I will go out quickly because my mother will be watching at home.'''

Mercedes' Nico Rosberg beat out Lewis Hamilton to win the first race of the season.
