Pellegrini confirms Kompany suffered another calf injury vs. Dynamo Kyiv

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany injured his calf once again on Tuesday, manager Manuel Pellegrini confirmed to reporters in a post-match news conference.

Kompany pulled up with the problem just five minutes into the 0-0 draw against Dynamo Kyiv, a night that saw City secure a first-ever Champions League quarter-final berth.

"Vincent again has a muscle injury in his calf, same as he had before," Pellegrini said, according to Jamie Jackson of the Guardian. "We will know tomorrow (Wednesday) or the day after tomorrow how serious it is. But always with muscle injuries it is minimum a month.

Asked if Kompany would take the pitch again this season, Pellegrini replied: "It is difficult for me at this moment to say if he is out for the season but having a problem in his calf, we are in the middle of March, then it is middle of April so it is at least three quarters of the rest of the season."

The 29-year-old missed a chunk of action towards the end of 2015 and again in the first weeks of the new year. The injury puts his participation in Sunday's Manchester derby in serious doubt.
