Despite entertaining trade negotiations, the San Francisco 49ers reportedly still see a possible future with Colin Kaepernick.

In the event that a trade can't be worked out, the 49ers are prepared to keep Kaepernick on their roster and have him compete with Blaine Gabbert for the starting quarterback job, according to NFL Network's Michael Silver.

The Denver Broncos and Cleveland Browns are both rumored to be in talks with the 49ers about acquiring Kaepernick. However, the Broncos and 49ers remain apart in terms of compensation, and talks between the Browns and Kaepernick's agents on a restructured deal have not progressed to the point where the quarterback would give his go-ahead, Silver reports.

The New York Jets have also been linked to Kaepernick, but multiple sources told Silver that the team is exploring several options and have not made any serious inquiries to the 49ers.

49ers general manager Trent Baalke told reporters at the scouting combine that he "absolutely" expects Kaepernick to be on the roster April 1, when his $12-million salary for 2016 becomes fully guaranteed.
