Report: Beltre seeking 3-year extension from Rangers

Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre has gauged the market and reportedly has set his value.

With his contract set to expire at the end of this season, Beltre is seeking a three-year extension, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

Entering his 19th major-league season, the 36-year-old is thought to not want to take less than the $17-million average annual value fellow American League third baseman Pablo Sandoval makes. Heyman notes, however, that there's a significant gap between the Rangers and Beltre's demands and that Texas isn't there in terms of offering that type of money.

Beltre has battled injuries throughout his five seasons in Texas but has played through pain and averaged 146 games over that span. He's also made three All-Star appearances, won two Gold Gloves and finished seventh in American League MVP voting twice.

The Rangers have been adamant this winter that they would like to reach an agreement and Beltre said he hopes to finis his career in Texas.

"I want to be on a team that wants to win, and they showed me that they want to win," Beltre said last month. "If they want me, I guess I will probably be here."
