Rangers, Beltre optimistic of working out extension
All signs currently point to Adrian Beltre ending his career in the Lone Star State.
Scott Boras, the third baseman's agent, told Jon Morosi of FOX Sports that both sides are eager to work out an extension to keep Beltre with the Texas Rangers beyond the upcoming season. Boras said an extension could come to fruition before the season begins April 3.
"I think Adrian already had a discussion with them, in which he expressed a desire to stay," Boras said. "They want him there, and we're going to work on that."
Beltre's current contract - a six-year, $96-million deal - expires at the end of 2016. Despite nagging injuries, the four-time All-Star and Gold Glove winner continued to produce at a high level during his age-36 season. Beltre, who turns 37 in April, slashed .287/.334/.453 with 18 home runs in 619 appearances in 2015, while ranking seventh in MVP voting.
Last month, Beltre told the Dallas Morning News he remained interested in exploring an extension to stay in Texas, where he's spent the last five seasons.
"I want to be on a team that wants to win, and they showed me that they want to win," Beltre said. "If they want me, I guess I will probably be here."
