White: Ronda Rousey will fight Miesha Tate for title

Following UFC 196 on Saturday night, UFC president Dana White announced on ESPN that the plan is for Ronda Rousey to challenge Miesha Tate for the women's bantamweight championship.

Tate defeated Holly Holm for the title in the fifth and final round of the UFC 196 co-main event with a rear-naked choke that left Holm unconscious.

White revealed the news in his response to a question about Holm getting a possible rematch.

"No, I think that Ronda now will now fight Miesha Tate for the title - that's what's gonna happen," he said, according to Artem Safarov of Bloody Elbow. "That's what I said before this fight even happened. Whoever wins tonight will fight Ronda for the title."

White also said Rousey wasn't watching the fight, but when he texted her with the result she replied by saying, "Looks like I gotta get back to work."

No date was announced for what will be the third meeting between Tate and Rousey. Rather than rushing the matchup for UFC 200 in July, White doesn't appear to mind waiting until later in the year.

"Ronda Rousey has worked very hard for three and a half years for this company," he said. "She did everything that was asked, and went above and beyond the call of duty. If she wants to stay out until October, I will let her do that."
