Grizzlies waive Mario Chalmers after season-ending Achilles injury

Memphis Grizzlies point guard Mario Chalmers was waived Thursday after it was announced he'll miss the remainder of the 2015-16 season due to a ruptured right Achilles tendon.
Chalmers is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.
He sustained the injury in the third quarter of Wednesday night's contest against the Boston Celtics.
"Mario did an incredible job for us since coming to Memphis," Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace said Thursday. "Right from the start, he embraced his change of scenery and endeared himself to his teammates and coaches on the court and the Memphis community off of it."
The Kansas product became a key component of Memphis' second unit, averaging 10.8 points, 3.8 assists, and 2.6 rebounds
The Grizzlies are down to just two point guards: Mike Conley and Briante Weber. Weber was recently signed to a 10-day contract.
