In all likelihood, Andrew Ference has played his last NHL game.

The Stanley Cup champion in his time with the Boston Bruins and former captain of the Edmonton Oilers told ESPN's Joe McDonald that he plans to walk away in the event Edmonton purchases him from his contract this summer.

"I think that's it for me," Ference said Friday. "More than likely (the Oilers) will probably buy me out this summer, and we'll probably part ways. That's it."

He added: "I've been around long enough."

Ference jumped at a chance to sign a multi-year deal with his hometown club in the summer of 2013. He served as captain for two seasons before his letter was taken away with the arrival of a new regime.

In January, he was ruled out for the rest of the season to undergo hip surgery. He's yet to go under the knife.
