Report: Bulls 'aggressively shopping' Pau Gasol

Anthony Gruppuso-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Bulls are hoping to recoup value on soon-to-be free agent Pau Gasol.

Bulls general manager Gar Forman is "agressively shopping" the 35-year-old Spaniard, The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski reports.

Gasol carries a $7.6-million player option for 2016-17 that he's expected to decline in favor of becoming an unrestricted free agent.

Shedding him would significantly undercut Chicago's playoff hopes, as they've already dropped to seventh in the East following a 3-7 stretch. They're also dealing with injuries to Jimmy Butler and Nikola Mirotic, so they could nary afford to lose their second-leading scorer in Gasol.

Moving Gasol could also help lower the Bulls' bloated payroll. Chicago is $5.4 million over the salary tax and Gasol is owed $7.5 million this season.

He is averaging 17 points and 10.9 rebounds in his 15th season.
